The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a report in July 2018 suggesting ways that families can limit exposure to certain chemicals at mealtime, including “the use of alternatives to plastic, such as glass or stainless steel, when possible.” The report explained that “…some additives are put directly in foods, while “indirect” additives may include chemicals from plastic, glues, dyes, paper, cardboard”. Further, “Children are more sensitive to chemical exposures because they eat and drink more, relative to body weight, than adults do, and are still growing and developing.” While stainless steel items meet the recommendation to avoid plastic products in children, Ahimsa® products have the obvious advantage of not breaking like glass.

Our compartment plates are a visual map for parents to plan and for children to learn about the importance of food variety at each meal. Additionally, parents have found by using stainless steel rather than dinnerware that can be microwaved – they are choosing more healthy, fresh foods for their children.Cups:
Ahimsa cups are not only inert stainless steel and therefore, nontoxic and do not leach chemicals – but they are also the perfect size for small hands. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advises that sippy cups should not be used for extended periods of time due to tooth decay. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association discourages sippy cups because they can interfere with a child’s ability to develop a mature swallowing pattern. We are so happy to offer cups that promote health not only due to their makeup, size and structure – but also to encourage healthy teeth, eating and speech development.Cutlery:
Encouraging children to use utensils during meals helps with pincer grasp and fine motor development. Parents have shared with us that their children often chose not to use their utensils until they started using our brightly colored cutlery and then continued to do so through habit.

No. Our steel is durable, so it won’t break or shatter with everyday use, like glass. And it won’t peel, like other colored stainless steel products you’ve seen. We use a special process that allows the colors to naturally occur in the metal.

According to the Steel Recycling Institute, steel can be recycled over and over and over again without losing its integrity and requires less energy to recycle than to make anew. Most plastic unfortunately ends up in landfills and it is estimated to take 700 years to decompose. Our special coloring process that allows Ahimsa® products to be fully metal is environmentally friendly, so it does not produce toxic run-off into the ecosystem.

Love these. Wish they were more resilient to dishwashing but the kids are absolutely loving them and they are our go to. I can't explain why they are so much better than other plates but the weight feel and material are just perfect. We swapped out all our plastic and silicone that was starting to wear and concerning us.
We have found that dishwasher detergents such as pods, pacs, and power balls are more abrasive to the color coating. We suggest using gentler, but still effective dishwasher detergents such as Seventh Generation, Dropps, Blueland, or other detergents that are marketed as environmentally friendly as they dissolve more completely in the dishwasher and are free of bleaching agents.
