Preparing your pool for an eco-friendly pool party starts with making mindful choices about how you maintain it. Traditional pool maintenance often involves harsh chemicals and high energy use. By switching to eco-friendly pool maintenance products and practices, you can keep your pool sparkling clean and safe for everyone while also being kind to the environment.
First, consider using eco-friendly pool cleaning products. These are made with natural ingredients that won’t harm the water or the swimmers. They are just as effective at keeping your pool clean without the harmful side effects of traditional chemicals. You can find these products at many pool supply stores or online.
Energy-efficient pool pumps and filters are another great way to make your pool party more sustainable. These devices use less electricity, which not only helps the environment but also reduces your energy bills. Look for products that have a good energy rating and are designed to work efficiently.
Water conservation is also important. Pools require a lot of water, but there are ways to minimize waste. Check your pool for leaks regularly and fix them promptly. Use a pool cover when the pool is not in use to reduce evaporation. Simple steps like these can make a big difference in conserving water.
By taking these steps to prepare your pool sustainably, you set the stage for an eco-friendly pool party. It shows your commitment to protecting our planet while still enjoying the pleasures of summer. With a clean, efficient, and well-maintained pool, you’re ready to host a fantastic, eco-conscious celebration.
Choosing the right swimwear is a fun part of planning for a pool party. For an eco-friendly pool party, why not opt for sustainable swimwear? Eco-friendly swimwear is made from materials that are kinder to the planet, like recycled fabrics and organic fibers. It's a stylish way to show your commitment to the environment, even while you’re splashing around in the pool.
Many brands now offer swimwear made from recycled plastic bottles, discarded fishing nets, and other reclaimed materials. These innovative fabrics are just as durable and comfortable as traditional swimwear, but with a much smaller environmental footprint. Plus, they come in a variety of colors and designs, so you can find something that suits your style perfectly.
Supporting brands that prioritize sustainability sends a strong message. When you buy eco-friendly swimwear, you're not only getting a great product, but you're also supporting companies that care about the environment. It's a way to vote with your wallet for a greener future.
Follow care instructions carefully to keep your sustainable swimwear in good shape. Rinse your swimwear in cold water after each use to remove chlorine and salt. Avoid wringing it out, as this can damage the fabric. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and lay it flat to dry. These simple steps will help extend the life of your swimwear, reducing the need to buy new items frequently.
Sustainable swimwear is a fantastic choice for your eco-friendly pool party. It’s an easy way to make a positive impact while enjoying the summer sun. With so many stylish and sustainable options available, you can look great and feel good about your contribution to a healthier planet.
What’s a pool party without delicious snacks and refreshing drinks? For an eco-friendly pool party, choose options that are both tasty and kind to the planet. By focusing on locally sourced and organic ingredients, you can create a menu that's not only good for your guests but also good for the environment.
Start with fresh, seasonal fruits and vegetables. Local farmers' markets are a great place to find organic produce that hasn't traveled far to reach your table. Think colorful fruit platters with watermelon, berries, and citrus slices. Veggie trays with hummus or guacamole are also crowd-pleasers and easy to prepare.
For more substantial snacks, consider plant-based options. Veggie burgers, lentil salads, and quinoa bowls are not only nutritious but also have a lower environmental impact compared to meat-based dishes. They’re perfect for guests who are vegetarian or vegan and add variety to your menu.
When it comes to drinks, avoid single-use plastic bottles and cans. Instead, serve beverages in large dispensers. Fill them with homemade lemonade, iced tea, or infused water with slices of cucumber, lemon, and mint. For an extra touch, provide reusable (preferably stainless steel) or compostable cups. Stainless steel straws or bamboo alternatives are fun additions that your guests will appreciate.
To keep things sweet, consider making your own desserts. Bake cookies or cupcakes using organic ingredients, or try your hand at making popsicles with fresh fruit and a splash of juice. Package them in reusable containers to reduce waste.
Refreshing eco-friendly snacks and drinks will keep your guests happy and hydrated. By choosing sustainable options, you make a positive impact while enjoying all the flavors of summer. It's a delicious way to celebrate and care for the planet at the same time.
As the sun sets and the last guests dry off, you’ll look back on your eco-friendly pool party with a sense of pride and joy. By choosing sustainable options, from the invitations to the snacks, you’ve shown that it’s possible to have a fun, memorable celebration while caring for our planet.
Every small step, whether it’s using eco-friendly pool toys or serving homemade treats, makes a big difference. It’s not just about reducing waste or conserving resources—it’s about setting an example and inspiring others to think green, too. Your guests will leave with more than just great memories; they’ll take home ideas for their own eco-friendly celebrations.
Here’s to many more summers of fun, laughter, and responsible choices. Keep splashing, keep celebrating, and keep making a positive impact, one party at a time.
Dr. Manasa Mantravadi is a board-certified pediatrician whose dedication to children’s health drove her to launch Ahimsa, the world's first colorful stainless steel dishes for kids. She was motivated by the American Academy of Pediatrics’ findings on harmful chemicals in plastic affecting children's well-being. Ahimsa has gained widespread recognition and been featured in media outlets such as Parents Magazine, the Today Show, The Oprah Magazine, and more.
Dr. Mantravadi received the esteemed “Physician Mentor of the Year” award at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2019. She was also named a Forbes Next 1000 Entrepreneur in 2021, with her inspiring story showcased on Good Morning America. She serves on the Council for Environmental Health and Climate Change and the Council for School Health at The American Academy of Pediatrics. She represents Ahimsa as a U.S. industry stakeholder on the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) for the Global Plastics Treaty, led by the United Nations Environment Program. Dr. Mantravadi leads Ahimsa's social impact program, The Conscious Cafeteria Project, to reduce carbon emissions and safeguard student health as part of a national pilot of the Clinton Global Initiative.
She is dedicated to educating and empowering people to make healthier, more environmentally friendly choices at mealtime. Her mission remains to advocate for the health of all children and the one planet we will leave behind for them through real policy change within our food system.
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a report in July 2018 suggesting ways that families can limit exposure to certain chemicals at mealtime, including “the use of alternatives to plastic, such as glass or stainless steel, when possible.” The report explained that “…some additives are put directly in foods, while “indirect” additives may include chemicals from plastic, glues, dyes, paper, cardboard”. Further, “Children are more sensitive to chemical exposures because they eat and drink more, relative to body weight, than adults do, and are still growing and developing.” While stainless steel items meet the recommendation to avoid plastic products in children, Ahimsa® products have the obvious advantage of not breaking like glass.
According to the Steel Recycling Institute, steel can be recycled over and over and over again without losing its integrity and requires less energy to recycle than to make anew. Most plastic unfortunately ends up in landfills and it is estimated to take 700 years to decompose. Our special coloring process that allows Ahimsa® products to be fully metal is environmentally friendly, so it does not produce toxic run-off into the ecosystem.
No. Our steel is durable, so it won’t break or shatter with everyday use, like glass. And it won’t peel, like other colored stainless steel products you’ve seen. We use a special process that allows the colors to naturally occur in the metal.
Our products are meant to last, you can use Ahimsa at ages 1, 8 and 18! We thoughtfully design our products to be safe for little ones and our planet while reducing consumption. Once your child outgrows the Starting Solids Set and can use regular cups and utensils, the training cup is the perfect size rinse cup in the bathroom, the infant spoon doubles as a tea stirrer and the bowl is great for snacks or as an additional compartment to our modular divided plate. Our plates are great for any age as they encourage choosing a variety of healthy foods at each meal and help visualize portion sizes easily. It’s the lasting beauty of stainless steel - grows with your child and reduces waste.
