The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a report in July 2018 suggesting ways that families can limit exposure to certain chemicals at mealtime, including “the use of alternatives to plastic, such as glass or stainless steel, when possible.” The report explained that “…some additives are put directly in foods, while “indirect” additives may include chemicals from plastic, glues, dyes, paper, cardboard”. Further, “Children are more sensitive to chemical exposures because they eat and drink more, relative to body weight, than adults do, and are still growing and developing.” While stainless steel items meet the recommendation to avoid plastic products in children, Ahimsa® products have the obvious advantage of not breaking like glass.

Ahimsa cups are not only inert stainless steel and therefore, nontoxic and do not leach chemicals – but they are also the perfect size for small hands. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advises that sippy cups should not be used for extended periods of time due to tooth decay. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association discourages sippy cups because they can interfere with a child’s ability to develop a mature swallowing pattern. No. Our steel is durable, so it won’t break or shatter with everyday use, like glass. And it won’t peel, like other colored stainless steel products you’ve seen. We use a special process that allows the colors to naturally occur in the metal.

According to the Steel Recycling Institute, steel can be recycled over and over and over again without losing its integrity and requires less energy to recycle than to make anew. Most plastic unfortunately ends up in landfills and it is estimated to take 700 years to decompose. Our special coloring process that allows Ahimsa® products to be fully metal is environmentally friendly, so it does not produce toxic run-off into the ecosystem.

These little circle containers are great for daycare snacks. The quality is amazing and very easy to clean. Love that there are rainbow colors too because that adds some fun back to stainless steel so it doesn’t feel so clinical!

We have several of the containers (round and square) and I have been impressed with the quality and hardiness--they survive everything our kids throw at them. I love the fact that these are not only completely non-toxic but also stylish with the way the blue metallic colour is. Also so handy to have them in three different sizes. I easily pack snacks for my baby on-the-go or store leftovers in the fridge knowing there’s no microplastic being leached into the food or silicone getting stinky!

Something about the construction of the smaller containers makes it nearly impossible to open them sometimes. The lid gets stuck. It took me a few minutes to open. This would be extremely annoying if I were out with my child and wanted to bring along a snack.

These snack tins are perfect for school. They are great for various portion sizes, and my 2.5 yo can easily open/close them. Love that we're able to slowly start replacing all the plastics in our home!

I wanted to go plastic and silicone free for toddler snacks. The containers serve that purpose. They are beautiful. I like that they stack too. The middle container formed spots of rust after a first week of using. So I'm kind of disappointed

These are pretty containers and good sizes for little ones. However, it is hard to open and my child cannot open it on her own. Hoping they make better, easier to open ones with a clear top so you can see what is inside.
Thank you for your feedback! We know there is a fine line between a tight fit to prevent leaks and being easier to open. We are currently in the early stages of designing an Ahimsa lunchbox that will be easy for little (and big) hands to open!
I haven’t been able to use these extensively yet, but I love the different sizes and they all easily fit in my diaper bag for quick and healthy snacks! I wouldn’t put anything that’s liquid in these because it looks like it could leak (but I haven’t tested this. Regardless, I’m so happy to replace the plastic/glass ones we have!

Beautiful, functional, durable (so far). Fit a wide variety of snacks. I use them in my kids lunches, my lunch, to take snacks on trips and as a bowl to eat snacks in at home. Also can be used as dip containers (at home). Not leak proof.
