The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a report in July 2018 suggesting ways that families can limit exposure to certain chemicals at mealtime, including “the use of alternatives to plastic, such as glass or stainless steel, when possible.” The report explained that “…some additives are put directly in foods, while “indirect” additives may include chemicals from plastic, glues, dyes, paper, cardboard”. Further, “Children are more sensitive to chemical exposures because they eat and drink more, relative to body weight, than adults do, and are still growing and developing.” While stainless steel items meet the recommendation to avoid plastic products in children, Ahimsa® products have the obvious advantage of not breaking like glass.

Ahimsa cups are not only inert stainless steel and therefore, nontoxic and do not leach chemicals – but they are also the perfect size for small hands. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advises that sippy cups should not be used for extended periods of time due to tooth decay. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association discourages sippy cups because they can interfere with a child’s ability to develop a mature swallowing pattern. No. Our steel is durable, so it won’t break or shatter with everyday use, like glass. And it won’t peel, like other colored stainless steel products you’ve seen. We use a special process that allows the colors to naturally occur in the metal.

According to the Steel Recycling Institute, steel can be recycled over and over and over again without losing its integrity and requires less energy to recycle than to make anew. Most plastic unfortunately ends up in landfills and it is estimated to take 700 years to decompose. Our special coloring process that allows Ahimsa® products to be fully metal is environmentally friendly, so it does not produce toxic run-off into the ecosystem.

I make lunch boxes for my 4th and 1st-grade children every day. I'm a very picky person and have tried many different lunch boxes, but plastic retains odors and is bad for the environment, and wood can't be used in the dishwasher. Among all the problems, this stainless steel lunch box is the best. It's light, dishwasher safe, dries quickly, and, most importantly, the 'cuteness' I couldn't compromise on has been solved with this color. My daughters love it too and take it to school every day. I really recommend it!

We're loving the Square at our house. Even my husband commented when he was packing lunch for our kids' summer camps how much he likes it! It makes for easy meal prep and for anything the kids don't finish, we just pop it in the fridge and use the container for storage. As a bonus, my kids love the colors and how fun the design is, so that's great!
These containers are so durable! And trust me, we have put them to the test! I take snacks to the pool or park. I use them daily when storing leftovers or meal prepping--and throw them in the dishwasher. I cannot believe how they hold up so well! I really like not having dividers like other bento box style lunchboxes. I can configure it how I want to and fit lots of items--even a lunch big enough for an adult. These are a game-changer!
Stainless steal is the way to go! These things have been great for our family, they close super tight and are way safe then using plastic containers! Would recommend

I like this container for sending a sandwich to school with my 2.5 yo toddler. This is quality! I wish the blue color was available at the time of purchase to be able to match the rest of the set we bought, but I wanted to test it out, so we got the classic. If the blue comes back in stock, we'll definitely snatch that up - and I would give the other one to my husband to take his sandwiches to work! :) The only wish I had for a "different" product - is a stainless steel container that is similar to a bento box (more rectangular with multiple compartments). This way, I could house a sandwich and multiple snacks in a single container. I don't know if that's even feasible, but right now, I pack 3-4 different containers into my daughter's lunchbox. They're all rattling around and may not fit as well as perhaps a single container with multiple compartments.

This rainbow square is much easier for the kids to get the lid on and off of than the rounded square. making lunch a little like opening a treasure chest.

Beautiful, a little challenging to open for smaller hands in our family. I like them but my kids aren’t as into them at 6 and 3 years of age.

Pretty, durable, able to dishwasher clean. However, when new, these containers are hard to open & close by my kids…I am still having to open & close them properly. And even I struggle to get them open once closed, the fit is very tight.

I really wanted to love this product. I love the idea of it but it is not designed for kids. They are incredibly difficult to open and close (even for adults). I got them for my kids school and the school won’t even let us use them anymore because the kids (and teachers) find it too difficult to open and close. They don’t empower children at mealtime. I wish you had a container that was designed with kids in mind to open and close with ease. I love the colors and that they are stainless steel but unfortunately we can use them for what it seems they were intended for.

When I first ordered this, I was worried it would be too small. But, it's the perfect size for a sandwich, or a snack + veggie. My kids love the color and material as well.
To those saying it's difficult to open, that goes away after you use it for a while. Plus, when I first got it, I "greased" the lid with a swipe of coconut oil. Personally, I'd much rather have this than any of the old plastic containers with nasty spaghetti sauce stains. Yuck.
I love Ahimsa already, I have most of their products because my kids fought over the few things I bought so I bought multiple of everything haha I saw The Square come out and I was excited to replace some of my larger plastic Tupperware and also use this in lieu of a lunchbox. I appreciate the simplicity as it's easy to clean. It holds multiple items at once like a sandwich and snacks so my kids can pack and take for lunch/snacks while we are out! I also like the durablity of it.... my kids tend to drop things haha totally recommend!
I really wanted to love this, but it was hard for ME to open/close ---- and one of them I couldn't even close ---- let alone my children. Perhaps a clasp or somewhere design upgrade should be considered

Super cute snack container, easy to clean. I like the whole product line. I plan on getting the plates that don’t have separated portion areas for my son.

I ultimately am returning these, as I purchased 4, and I cant get any of the lids off. My children certainly cant either. Great idea, but a design adjustment is necessary.

I bought these as a birthday gift for the kids I nanny for and they LOVE them. No more ripped snack bags dripping inside their soccer bags after a long hot day of games. The kids fill them up with their favorite snacks, throw them in their bags, and are on their way!
