The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a report in July 2018 suggesting ways that families can limit exposure to certain chemicals at mealtime, including “the use of alternatives to plastic, such as glass or stainless steel, when possible.” The report explained that “…some additives are put directly in foods, while “indirect” additives may include chemicals from plastic, glues, dyes, paper, cardboard”. Further, “Children are more sensitive to chemical exposures because they eat and drink more, relative to body weight, than adults do, and are still growing and developing.” While stainless steel items meet the recommendation to avoid plastic products in children, Ahimsa® products have the obvious advantage of not breaking like glass.

Ahimsa cups are not only inert stainless steel and therefore, nontoxic and do not leach chemicals – but they are also the perfect size for small hands. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advises that sippy cups should not be used for extended periods of time due to tooth decay. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association discourages sippy cups because they can interfere with a child’s ability to develop a mature swallowing pattern. No. Our steel is durable, so it won’t break or shatter with everyday use, like glass. And it won’t peel, like other colored stainless steel products you’ve seen. We use a special process that allows the colors to naturally occur in the metal.

According to the Steel Recycling Institute, steel can be recycled over and over and over again without losing its integrity and requires less energy to recycle than to make anew. Most plastic unfortunately ends up in landfills and it is estimated to take 700 years to decompose. Our special coloring process that allows Ahimsa® products to be fully metal is environmentally friendly, so it does not produce toxic run-off into the ecosystem.

These bowls are great! Kids love them. They’re just as big as my other stainless steel bowls but stack so nicely that they take up half the space in my cabinets. We also consider it a plus that it keeps food hot/cold. It’s worth the $ when i think of how often i was buying new plastic stuff because it was getting old and shedding pieces, yuck. I love that i can put these in the dishwasher. The time i save not having to hand wash them because of concerns about leaching chemicals alone is worth the money.

We are truly sorry for the inconvenience of receiving an Ahimsa product with a broken seal. Our packaging is designed with eco-consciousness in mind, and everything is 100% recyclable. At Ahimsa, we're committed to minimizing our carbon footprint and being kind to the environment. The paper seals on our products can break away more easily than traditional plastic seals, and most likely happened during transit.
We understand that this may be concerning, but please be assured that the product inside is brand new and unused. We're confident that you'll love our products once you see them! Our family loves the bowls! We bought them for my toddler initially, but I think the parents use them just as much. Snacks, yogurt, fruit.... They are the perfect size, look pretty (blue), and wash well. A+

I waited for a great sale to buy these. I’m so glad I finally got them. They are super sturdy and are the cleanest dishes in my dish washer. No signs of wear after maybe 3 weeks of hard use. The color is very pretty and appealing to my 1 and 5 year olds. I was worried about the bowls being noisy, but it’s not an issue. I bought one 4 pack, and that’s a sufficient number for our home with 2 living kids. If you’ve been waiting and have a deal, go for it. You’ll be glad to finally get a high quality eating product for your kid.
Your product is wonderful. I ordered gifts for two of my relatives. In each case I put their address instead of mine. Unfortunately, both orders were sent to my address and I had to pay to reship the items to their address. I am not sure why this happened.
