The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a report in July 2018 suggesting ways that families can limit exposure to certain chemicals at mealtime, including “the use of alternatives to plastic, such as glass or stainless steel, when possible.” The report explained that “…some additives are put directly in foods, while “indirect” additives may include chemicals from plastic, glues, dyes, paper, cardboard”. Further, “Children are more sensitive to chemical exposures because they eat and drink more, relative to body weight, than adults do, and are still growing and developing.” While stainless steel items meet the recommendation to avoid plastic products in children, Ahimsa® products have the obvious advantage of not breaking like glass.

Ahimsa cups are not only inert stainless steel and therefore, nontoxic and do not leach chemicals – but they are also the perfect size for small hands. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advises that sippy cups should not be used for extended periods of time due to tooth decay. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association discourages sippy cups because they can interfere with a child’s ability to develop a mature swallowing pattern. No. Our steel is durable, so it won’t break or shatter with everyday use, like glass. And it won’t peel, like other colored stainless steel products you’ve seen. We use a special process that allows the colors to naturally occur in the metal.

According to the Steel Recycling Institute, steel can be recycled over and over and over again without losing its integrity and requires less energy to recycle than to make anew. Most plastic unfortunately ends up in landfills and it is estimated to take 700 years to decompose. Our special coloring process that allows Ahimsa® products to be fully metal is environmentally friendly, so it does not produce toxic run-off into the ecosystem.
I'm a adult who bought these and I love them. They keep my portion in control and remind me to eat healthy. The color pop is joyful. I wash my dishes by hand and these were super easy to clean. Feels food going with stainless steel.

I decided to come back and review this plate because i think i have had it long enough to conclude that IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY! After hundreds of meals on it, being washed by hand thousands of times ( I dont have a dish washer) its held up great! It has some scratches but i blame myself for that, many times cutting my toddlers steak into cubes with a knife directly on the plate which is not an ideal thing to do anyways lol I highly recommend this plate and i am sure this brands other products are just as good. I am coming back to purchase for second child when they are ready for solids!

I was pleasantly surprised to feel such nice weight and quality with Ahimsa. The stainless steel is beautiful and really perfect for the whole family. I initially thought the divided plates would be too small for adults, but if we wanted to, we could definitely use them too. One of our kids wants their foods to be separated on their plate so they love having the divided spaces. We were using glass for kids, but we will be laying tile and with our littlest still tossing many things on the floor, we needed something more durable. I’m not comfortable using plastic, and after reading more about silicone, it seems to be often created with properties that are also unhealthy. So stainless steel is easily the best option. I’ll still use our glass plates for pasta with marinara and other acidic foods since it’s not good on stainless steel, and I’m totally comfortable with that. I’m hoping for another awesome sale on the round plates so I can order those, as well! Make sure you join their text lists for secret sale codes!!

I’ll be honest I didn’t want to spend the money on this splurge item. Literally have been looking at these for 9+ months - I finally went forward and made the purchase; and I’m telling you I love these plates more than I even thought I would! Definite buy! I do hand wash them bc I want them to last as long as possible, but honestly it’s not a hassle as food just glides off them easily.
We love these! So colorful and kids love eating from them. Throwing out plastic feels so good!

As a busy mom of 6 I can’t say enough good things about these plates. I wish I had them years ago! They are so durable and have saved us so much money. To avoid poisoning our precious children with the harmful chemicals in plastic we have used ceramic plates and shattered so many. Ahimsa plates are incredible ! My kids beg for them at every meal and even my husband prefers them to our ceramic dishes. We use to stock up on paper plates for meals on the go, now we simply grab our Ahimsa plates and throw them in our picnic bag, better for our wallet and the environment. We love our rainbow and blue Ahimsa compartment plates!!! I have 3 kiddos (6, 4 and 2) and we use them for every meal - they are so easy to clean, they look great and they give me peace of mind since I know they are safe and will not leach toxic chemicals. We use them so often and they will last forever - I put them in the dishwasher and we take them outside to eat on nice days and they still look great. They actually bring me joy - seeing my kids light up for them, seeing them in my cabinets, on my table or in my dishwasher - can't wait for more products! I'm so glad we made the switch!
I was on the hunt for non-plastic plates and utensils for a toddler, and this is just the perfect thing. I love this plate, the rainbow color is beautiful- looks like C3PO, and it is of very high quality. This was purchased for a toddler who loves the divided sections, but I plan on buying more plates and bowls for the whole family- it is really nice to have a non-toxic option that can stand up to being dropped on the floor.
