The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released a report in July 2018 suggesting ways that families can limit exposure to certain chemicals at mealtime, including “the use of alternatives to plastic, such as glass or stainless steel, when possible.” The report explained that “…some additives are put directly in foods, while “indirect” additives may include chemicals from plastic, glues, dyes, paper, cardboard”. Further, “Children are more sensitive to chemical exposures because they eat and drink more, relative to body weight, than adults do, and are still growing and developing.” While stainless steel items meet the recommendation to avoid plastic products in children, Ahimsa® products have the obvious advantage of not breaking like glass.

Our compartment plates are a visual map for parents to plan and for children to learn about the importance of food variety at each meal. Ahimsa cups are not only inert stainless steel and therefore, nontoxic and do not leach chemicals – but they are also the perfect size for small hands. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry advises that sippy cups should not be used for extended periods of time due to tooth decay. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association discourages sippy cups because they can interfere with a child’s ability to develop a mature swallowing pattern. We are so happy to offer cups that promote health not only due to their makeup, size and structure – but also to encourage healthy teeth, eating and speech development.Cutlery:
Encouraging children to use utensils during meals helps with pincer grasp and fine motor development. Parents have shared with us that their children often chose not to use their utensils until they started using our brightly colored cutlery and then continued to do so through habit.

No. Our steel is durable, so it won’t break or shatter with everyday use, like glass. And it won’t peel, like other colored stainless steel products you’ve seen. We use a special process that allows the colors to naturally occur in the metal.

According to the Steel Recycling Institute, steel can be recycled over and over and over again without losing its integrity and requires less energy to recycle than to make anew. Most plastic unfortunately ends up in landfills and it is estimated to take 700 years to decompose. Our special coloring process that allows Ahimsa® products to be fully metal is environmentally friendly, so it does not produce toxic run-off into the ecosystem.

We are truly sorry for the inconvenience of receiving an Ahimsa product with a broken seal. Our packaging is designed with eco-consciousness in mind, and everything is 100% recyclable. At Ahimsa, we're committed to minimizing our carbon footprint and being kind to the environment. The paper seals on our products can break away more easily than traditional plastic seals, and most likely happened during transit.
We understand that this may be concerning, but please be assured that the product inside is brand new and unused. We're confident that you'll love our products once you see them! These plates are stellar. My husband and I use them probably just as much as my toddler. The blue is just gorgeous. They are lightweight but rugged at the same time. I typically handwash, but have put into dishwasher a couple of times... comes out super clean either way. We've had them for about a month now, but seem to be holding up well so far. We will definitely be ordering more in the future!

LOVE these plates and wish I had gotten more. Feels great knowing my kids are eating off of non-toxic silverware and they love the fun colors.
Plates are really sturdy and pretty. They are an investment but overall a great product.
